I came to England in 1997 and settled in Cornwall after completing a walk that took me from Plymouth to St. Ives. After eight years living in South Devon I moved back to Cornwall in 2018.
I studied Theatre at Dartington College of Arts and Bath.
My work comprises drawing, animation, objects and installations and engages with modes of perception and the interconnectedness of things.
Itis about The Other, Animismand theSurfacing Reality, the three major strands that are equally important and inform each other. This goes back to a long-standing interest in the spiritual in science and the significance of consciousness to the existence of the universe in the same manner as the universe is essential to the existence of man. The psychologist James Hillman once wrote that every phenomenon has a soul, a consciousness, or an inner life that can deeply inform us through our interaction with it. This idea has stayed with me, and remains a guiding principle in all my work.
I work with a variety of media, including painting, installation, video, and animation, but currently concentrates on drawing and artist books the significance of which is to ‘de-frame’ an image and explore meaning through movement, rhythm and juxtaposition.
What brings the disciplines together is the ambiguity of the surface. Paper, canvas, projections, in fact any surface is seen as an edge of interactivity. Like a membrane the surface can hide, hold back or disguise, and yet at the same time receive, reveal, throw forth and disclose something previously hidden from our view.
