NSA member Yolande Armstrong is having a solo exhibition at Lamorna Village Hall. Opening event Saturday 19th April 4-7pm.
‘My work is based on careful observation of human beings and their relationships and inter-actions with each other and with the world around them. I often use photographs, either my own or taken by others, but in the process of making a painting, these become transformed.
In a world of existential threat to many things which I have always believed to be good and true, indeed, to humanity itself, I offer glimpses of humans in their complexity…
The rough and unfinished quality of the paintings, which often appear to disintegrate when you take a closer look, suggests how shifting are our identities, how challenging it is to really know someone –– but I hope that the tenderness of the work also suggests rich possibilities of closeness and contact between us as well as with the living world around us – wild dreams!’
