Profile
Paula Whitbread Roberts
As an insomniac my mind is always racing and never stops, so over a long period of time, reading has become a source of comfort and a way of channelling an active imagination. My paintings evolve from snippets of stories, poems. biographies and a mix of observations from my surroundings, memories, real places visited and are focused on water, landscapes, interiors etc, depending on my thought processes at any given time. The main thread is always centred around a personal narrative which develops along the way from initial drawings, photographs , extracts of text and spontaneous emotions., which are essentially the raison d’etre for each piece. I am drawn to the ever changing pattern of form, colour and light, where silence lingers with the residue of human presence. Shafts of light and fleeting shadows evoke the elusiveness of time.
