Charlotte Turner is a Devon-based artist whose work is deeply inspired by the coastal landscape and the meditative process of creation. For nearly 30 years, she has developed a unique, layered painting technique that reflects the rhythms of nature.
Beachcombing along the Southwest coastline, she collects pebbles—small keepsakes that capture fleeting moments by the sea. These found objects inform her paintings, which, despite appearing textured, have smooth, polished surfaces reminiscent of tide-worn stones. Using a limited palette, she applies and sands back layers of paint, sometimes over thirty, until each piece reaches a natural resolution.
Solitude is central to her process. Through morning pages and meditation, she creates space for ideas to emerge, allowing each painting to become an exercise in stillness and reflection—echoing the restorative power of the coast.
Beyond her studio practice, Charlotte is a trustee of Brisons Veor Charitable Trust Artists Residency and a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists. She also works as a community artist and creativity coach with Beacon Psychology, exploring the connection between art and mental well-being.
Her work invites a moment of pause, offering a quiet connection to nature and the soothing rhythm of the shoreline.
